About Refugee:

In general, A person who has been left or forced to leave their own country in order to run away or left his native country and is unwilling or unable to return as because of persecution or fear of persecution on account of race, religion, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion.

According to the United Nations 1951 Refugee Convention, a refugee is someone who has fled their home and country due to “a well-founded fear of persecution because of his/her race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion”.

The 1951 Refugee Convention and its 1967 Protocol are the only instructions in place protecting refugees. It simply states that all types of refugees deserve the same values & standards of treatment as other overseas nationals.

The rights contained in the 1951 Convention include:

 The right to access the courts;
 The right to employment;
 The right to get medical assistance;
 The right to somewhere to live;
 The right to education;
 The right to public assistance ;
 The right to freedom of religious conviction;
 The right to freedom of society within the territory;
 The right not to be disqualified, except under certain, strictly defined conditions;
 The right not to be punished for unlawful entry into the territory of a Contracting State;
 The right to be issued identity and travel documents.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE ASYLUM & THE REFUGEE:

Asylum seeker who has been left the country and the status of the refugee has not been confirmed yet.
Comparatively, a refugee is someone who has been recognized as refugee under the 1951 Convention.

Resettlement :

Resettlement is move of refugees from the country in which they have sought refuge to another country that has agreed to admit them.
